As of Thursday, March 11, 2010, this site is home to about 2646557 web pages describing 1,105,429 plants, 1,296,615 animals, 16,112 Bacteria, 17,562 Chromista, 193,534 Fungi, and 16,517 Protozoa. The database from which we generate all of this contains 7.3 gigabytes * of primary data. Pages contain 312,841 photos taken by 1,408 photographers, 1,471 sound recordings, and definitions of 236,201 terms, plus 107,064 large photos (172.8 gigabytes ) that can be zoomed and panned.
Altogether we have about 000.0 gigabytes, or 265300826371 bytes, of source data, photos and maps, not counting the pages themselves.
We have also created 173,245 pages with text, photos, and maps for taxonomic groups from Domain down to Genus. Finding all of this can be fast, because about 3 million pages are indexed for soundex searches.
We have gathered a total of about 127715643 field observations from 28,481 data sets and 1,547 data providers which show latitude and longitude, from which we have generated 256,342 State Maps, 1,142,567 Country Maps, 450,685 Google maps showing up to 200 sightings each, and 450,685 Google Earth maps showing all sightings.
